Roasted Coffee Bean in a petri dish on an EnviroESCA sample plate. The sample was analysed without any pretreatment, drying, cleaning procedure, electrical contacting, or glueing.

Coffee Bean underneath the analyzer nozzle at a working distance of 0.3mm.
The image was recorded with one of the three digital microscopes at the EnviroESCAs Analysis Module. The metal pipe coming from the lower left corner allows for dosing of gases directly onto the analyzed region of the sample.

After evacuating the Sample Environment to 1mbar a survey spectrum was measured.
As the Coffee Bean is insulating it would charge up upon x-ray iradiation und HV or UHV conditions. Providing a 1mbar atmosphere of air results in an Environmental Charge Compensation.

The above shown detail of the survey spectrum clearly shows signals from Sulfur and Calcium on the surface of the Coffee Bean.
